DTE worker killed on the job in Oakland County

A 61-year-old DTE worker from the Village of Milford was killed on the job Tuesday in Oakland County.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, deputies and a crew from the Independence Township Fire Department responded to the DTE substation at 6200 Sashabaw Rd. shortly after 7 p.m. after it was reported that a piece of equipment had fallen on an employee.

Deputies found the man lying near a large transformer radiator and life-saving measures were started by paramedics, who subsequently transported him to an area hospital where he died, the sheriff's office said.

The man's fellow workers reported hearing the radiator fall, found it on top of him and then lifted it off, the sheriff's office said.

Detectives and the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating the incident, and an autopsy was scheduled, the sheriff's office said.
